We've been home-growing plants locally for decades. It's only fair we help give back to our community in some way. One way we do this is through fund-raising programs for community organizations, non-proft groups, or other worthy causes.
Our first fund-raising package was based on poinsettias. Poinsettias were offered to fund-raisers who took pre-orders and then sold the plants to the public. Some of the best fund-raisers were able to raise over $5000 per year through our poinsettia program.
With the success of our poinsettia program, we've extended our fundraising opportunities to both spring and fall programs with hanging baskets, planters, and vegetables for Mother's Day, or Mums for the fall. Of course, poinsettias for Christmas are still available. We're often asked how successful plant fundraisers are. The success is entirely determined by the work your organization puts in to selling with some fundraisers selling well over 1000 plants per season. Our goal is make the entire fundraising process as easy and seamless as possible, and we pride ourselves on being friendly, organized, and communicative throughout the entire process. We love growing plants and make sure our plants will last the entire season if well cared for, rather than short-term disposable items.
How our fundraisers works:
- We'll send you a list of all our plant offerings appropriate for the fund raising season requested. Your organization can offer as many or as few items from our offering list. We sell plants at a discounted wholesale rate and your organization can set your own selling price.
- If you choose to participate, just send us a note with a tentative distribution date. This helps us to follow up as the deadlines get closer.
- Pre-orders are taken through your organization. For Mother's Day, many fundraisers start as early as March. Fall mum sales often begin in August. For Holiday sales, we suggest starting early October. The most successful fundraisers start early and distribute early.
- You submit your final consolidated order to us. All orders are reserved first-come, first-served so some colour combinations may no longer be available if you submit too late. As such, there may be substitutions. We request all orders in to us one week prior to your distribution, but we accept additions until two days before pickup/delivery. Delivery is available for a fee based on distance and order size, and is subject to availability.
- When you pick up your plants or have them delivered to a single distribution point, your organization then distributes the plants to customers. Holiday plants are all wrapped in protective paper sleeves with colour and size labelled on each plant for easy distribution. Mother's Day plants are labelled for sun or shade. Remember, poinsettias do not like being in protective sleeves for very long so it's best if you distribute your plants as quickly as possible.
The best fundraisers start early and distribute early, with Mother's Day plants being distributed the first week of May, and poinsettias the last week of November. Online sales have traditionally lower uptake than personalized active sales. We've seen high success rates offering plants to senior's residences, local businesses, and even churches and professional offices. Some organizations also do community plant sales during special events like local fairs, school events, or even church socials.
