 Black currant insects
I had for two years a problem with my black currant bushes: small whitish worm/maggot penetrate the berry and lives inside the berries, which makes them not usable for eating. Very sad, tried to find info online - no luck.
Any advices: name of the worm/maggot and how to fight the problem.
Thank you in advance,
Elena

 Re: Black currant insects
I've never actually seen a bug like that, but using either BTK or Diatomaceous Earth (Silicone Dioxide based insect killer) as a preventative measure may be the best bet. Both are organic, but both would have a limited life on the plant because of rainfall. I would start to apply when the plants are just finishing their flower stage and repeat regularely.
Those solutions aren't typically completely effective, but they will help. With the Ontario Pesticide Ban, there aren't many other options open to you.
