Page 1 of 4 During the March Break, over one million tiny seedlings need to be transplanted. Our team of full time greenhouse staff and high-school students do all the work.
Transplanting starts with seedlings or rooted cuttings. Seedlings can be in large trays with thousands of little plants mixed together by "broadcast" seeding or they can be in individual cells called "plugs." Either way they need to get into bigger containers. The process of starting the seedlings starts as early as January and it depends on the plants. Trays of Seedlings. Plug Trays The trays then need to be prepared. A flat-filling and soil crew work to prepare the soil and then run the empty trays through the flat filling machine. Safety is of utmost importance and all machines are locked when not in use. Only authorized staff are permitted to operate any machines.
